Ten of these writer-suicides are briefly described, and the life of the most well-known (Yukio Mishima) discussed in more detail. It is apparent that the risk factors for suicide (psychiatric disorders, drug and alcohol abuse, and disrupted interpersonal relationship) were present in many of these writers. The role of Japanese culture and the link between creativity and suicide are also discussed.</p> ER -
