Nursing care of elderly patients receiving general anesthesia along with epidural anesthesia for total bladder surgery and urinary drainage of the small intestine.

Abstract

     This study was case study aimed to study the nursing care for elderly patients receiving general
anesthesia along with epidural anesthesia for total bladder surgery and urinary drainage of the small intestine.
     Results: Thai male patient, age 66 years old, admitted to the hospital on 4 January 2023, with pain in urination and blood in the lower abdomen before coming to the hospital for 1 month. Doctors diagnosed the patient with bladder cancer and made an appointment to do surgery to remove the entire bladder, take the small intestine and make a way to drain the urine. Before anesthesia, nurse gave the nursing care to reduce anxiety of patient and provided knowledge on how to behave while receiving anesthesia. The patient was prevented from tissue oxygen depletion from intubation and being monitored for hypothermia. It was found that the patient had intraoperative blood loss of 3300 cc. After anesthesia, patient was protected from hypoventilation and anesthetic poisoning after giving anesthesia medication, and was transferred to the intensive care unit for further treatment. After following up patient visits, complications were not found from the anesthesia administration. Total hospital admission of 21 days. The patient was discharges on 7 February 2023.
