Voices from the Community: A Qualitative Study on Participation in Chronic Kidney Disease Management in Ubon Ratchathani Province

This survey research aimed to: 1) study the situation and context of chronic kidney disease patient care, 2) analyze problems, obstacles, and needs in patient care, 3) study approaches for community network participation in care and slowing kidney deterioration. Data was collected through focus group discussions with 4 health service providers, including a doctor, pharmacist, professional nurse, and public health officer, and 13 community network members, including stage 3 chronic kidney disease patients, primary caregivers, community leaders, local government officials, and health volunteers, who were selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted through focus group discussions, with the focus group guidelines validated for content by 3 experts, yielding a content validity index of 1.00. Data was analyzed using content analysis.
The research findings revealed 5 main themes: 1) perception and understanding of chronic kidney disease, 2) chronic kidney disease patient care system, 3) communication and coordination in patient care, 4) access to health services, and 5) economic and social impacts.
