การวิจัยแบบภาคตัดขวางนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อประเมินการรับสัมผัสและความเสี่ยงต่อสุขภาพจากการรับสัมผัสแนฟทาลีนทางการหายใจของพนักงานขับรถโดยสารประจำทางในเขตเมือง เก็บตัวอย่างแนฟทาลีนในอากาศบริเวณการหายใจของพนักงานตลอดช่วงเวลาการทำงาน จำนวน 36 ตัวอย่าง ร่วมกับการเก็บข้อมูลส่วนบุคคล ลักษณะการทำงาน และลักษณะของรถโดยสาร และประเมินความเสี่ยงต่อสุขภาพตามแนวทางขององค์การพิทักษ์สิ่งแวดล้อมสหรัฐอเมริกา
ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ความเข้มข้นเฉลี่ยของแนฟทาลีนในอากาศบริเวณการหายใจมีค่า 159.76 ± 196.73 µg/m³ ระดับความเข้มข้นของการรับสัมผัสแนฟทาลีน (exposure concentration: EC) สำหรับการประเมินความเสี่ยงต่อสุขภาพที่ไม่ใช่มะเร็งและความเสี่ยงต่อการเกิดมะเร็ง มีค่า 48.94 และ 11.19 µg/m³ ตามลำดับ ค่าความเสี่ยงต่อสุขภาพที่ไม่ใช่มะเร็ง (hazard quotient: HQ) เท่ากับ 16.31 และความเสี่ยงในการเกิดมะเร็งมีค่า 3.80 × 10-4 ผลการศึกษาชี้ให้เห็นว่า ภายใต้สมมติฐานที่ใช้ในการประเมิน การรับสัมผัสแนฟทาลีนทางการหายใจของพนักงานขับรถโดยสารประจำทางมีความเสี่ยงต่อสุขภาพในระดับที่ควรให้ความสำคัญและควรมีมาตรการในการลดและควบคุมการรับสัมผัสแนฟทาลีนระหว่างการปฏิบัติงาน
