Practice of the Self-Crime Prevention: A Case Study in Lat Luang, Phra Pradaeng, Samut Prakan

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study self-crime prevention from crime of population in Lat Luang Municipality and 2) to compare the levels of the self-prevention from crime of population in Lat Luang Municipality. In this research was collected 382 people as a sampling group from the whole 72,263 people in Lat Luang Municipality. The research instruments were a questionnaire of 4 aspects which were crime prevention, self-prevention and assets from crime, participation collaboration and contribution in the prevention of crime activities and crime suppression. The statistics used for data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, comparison of mean values for 2 samples (t-test independent), one-way ANOVA, data analysis using social science software packages.

The findings of this research were as the followings: 1. The overview of the self-prevention from crime of population in Lat Luang Municipality, Phra Pradaeng, Samut Prakan was in the highest level ( =4.57, S.D. = 0.68). When considering each aspect, it was found that the aspect with the highest average value of the top 3 was the prevention of crime ( =4.76, S.D. = 0.74) at a highest level. The second one was self-prevention and assets from crime ( =4.63, S.D. = 0.82) at a highest level. The third one was participation, collaboration and contribution in the prevention of crime activities ( =4.52, S.D. = 0.78) at a highest level.

Comparative between personal factor and self-prevention from crime of population in Lat Luang Municipality, Phra Pradaeng, Samut Prakan classified by gender, age, education level and career found that the differences in age of population has perspective in self-prevention from crime that is not different. On the other hand, the differences in gender, education level and career of population have the different perspective in self-prevention from crime at the statistical significance of 0.05.
