The Study of Guideline the Treatment for Frozen Shoulder by Thai Traditional Medicine

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the treatment for frozen shoulder guideline by Thai traditional medicine in School of Traditional and Alternative Medicine, Chiang Rai Rajabhat University. This study was qualitative research. The methods employed documentary research on frozen shoulder in modern medicine and Thai traditional medicine. In addition to lessons acquires from the experiences of 20 Thai Traditional medical practitioners who treated frozen shoulder to analyze and summarized the results of treatment of frozen shoulder.

            The results showed that Thai traditional medicine’s guideline for treating frozen shoulder consisted of 4 issues: 1) Definitions and indications of frozen shoulder is shoulder pain and inability to fully extend the shoulder joint. 2) The causes are deterioration of body aging. And overuse shoulder’s joint a long time causes shoulder joint’s surrounding muscles and ligaments contraction. 3) Physical examination and diagnosis, including observations, interview, muscles and movement examination. 4) Principles and guidelines for treatment by manus therapeutic and using of Plai oil. In additional, it is advised to change behavior and shoulder joint’s exercise. Follow up 3 times a week over the courses of 6-12 times. Treatment is stopped if there are no symptoms or if they are stable.
