Abstract

Tai Lue Ban Sri Donchai woven fabric in Chiang Khong District Chiang Rai has an important identity that has been passed down through generations. This identity is the weaving technique of multicoloured tapestry in the middle of the skirt. This research conducted a field visit, observation, interview, and analysis to determine that the Sri Donchai community engages in a variety of creative processes, such as pattern design, unravelling existing patterns to apply new patterns, and the use of woven materials to invent new products. However, the technique of Baan Sri Donchai is not limited to the development of the fabric's fineness. What is fascinating, though, is the inheritance process, which involves building learning resources within the community and employing traditional rituals to raise awareness of the values and pride in Tai Lue woven textiles, a significant part of the group's cultural history. This knowledge and awareness of this value have reverted to being an important part of supporting the continuous creation of woven fabrics. This research has revealed that for future textile creation to be sustainable, a process of continuity with tradition and culture is required for the many knowledge-creation processes.
