Development of Learning Activities based on the SQP2RS Strategy with the Brain-based Learning Principle to Enhance Reading Comprehension Ability for Students in Grade 6

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to construct and determine the efficiency of learning activities based on the SQP2RS strategy with the brain-based learning principle to enhance reading comprehension ability for students in grade 6 according to the 75/75 criteria, 2) to compare the ability of reading comprehension in Thai language before and after studying by using learning activities 3) to study the effect of using learning activities. The research was carried out by research and development methodology. The sample consisted of 15 students in grade 6 at Ban Plai Chumphon School, semester 2, academic year 2022, which were selected by purposive sampling. The research tools consisted of 1) the learning activities based on the SQP2RS strategy with the brain-based learning principles, 2) the reading comprehension ability test, 3) the record for using learning activity. Data were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation, percentage, t-test and content analysis. The results showed that; 1.The learning activities according to the SQP2RS strategy with the brain-based learning principles is the efficiency was 76.43/77.14, which met the criteria. 2. The students had the ability in reading the main ideas after studying with learning activities based on the SQP2RS strategy with the brain-based learning principle to enhance reading comprehension ability for students in grade 6, which was higher than before studying. 3. The students were able to develop their reading comprehension ability because the activities organized were learning-oriented activities that suitable for the age of learners and consistent with brain development. Furthermore, the activities practiced with the strategy that focused on allowing students to explore the writings before they start reading.
