Development of Reading Activities by Using Local Contexts Reading Materials with Scaffolding Technique to Enhance the Thai Reading Ability Entitled “Spelling of Words Ending do not Follow the Rules” for Prathomsuksa 2

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to 1) construct and determine the effectiveness index of the reading activities by using local contexts reading materials with scaffolding technique to enhance the Thai reading ability entitled “spelling of words ending do not follow the rules” for Prathomsuksa 2, 2) compare the Thai reading ability entitled “spelling of words ending do not follow the rules” before and after 3) study the satisfaction of students. The research was conducted by research and development methodology. The sample was 34 Prathomsuksa 2 students, Banpakkayang School. The research instruments consisted of 1) the reading activities by using local contexts reading materials with scaffolding technique, 2) the Thai reading ability entitled “spelling of words ending do not follow the rules” test, and 3) the satisfaction of students questionnaire. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, effectiveness index, and an independent t-test. The results showed that; 1. The reading activities, there were 5 stages such as, Step 1: engagement, Step 2: selecting contexts reading materials, Step 3: constructing knowledge  with materials, Step 4: conclusion and presentation, and Step 5: application of knowledge. The results of appropriateness of learning activities were at a high level  ( = 4.45, S.D. = 0.00) and had effectiveness index of reading activities at 0.57 2. The students had the Thai reading ability entitled “spelling of words ending do not follow the rules” after studying higher than before at the statistical significance level of 0.5 3. The students were satisfied overall was at the highest level ( = 4.68, S.D. = 0.23)
