Development of Learning Implementation Using Mathematical Modeling to Enhance Critical Thinking Skills on The Topic of Prism and Cylinder for Grade 8 Students

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study 1) the appropriate learning implementation using mathematical models to enhance mathematical critical thinking skills and 2) the effect of learning implementation using mathematical models on critical thinking skills on Prism and Cylinder topic of grade 8 students. The research instruments were lesson plans, learning reflection form, worksheets, and critical thinking skills test. The data were analyzed by content analysis then checked for trustworthiness by resource triangulation technique; and data were analyzed by analytic scoring. The results revealed that: The learning implementation using mathematical models to promote critical thinking skills on prisms and cylinders for grade 8 students should be emphasized as follows: 1) Emphasis on the problems and conditions of mathematical models. 2) Summarize the material reviewed before doing other activities. 3) Take action and learn by yourself. 4) Discuss all models in  class using real materials and technology media. 5) Reduced mentoring to students. 6) Train students to think about more complex situations. and The results of the study of critical thinking skills on prisms and cylinders for grade 8 students. after learning using mathematical models on critical thinking higher before learning.
