Creative Process of Tai Yuan Laplae Woven to The Master Craftsmen: A Case Study of Chongcharoon Manokham

Abstract

The objectives of this research are 1) to study a creative process of Laplae woven fabric which is created by Chongcharoon Manokam, and to study a process of his journey to become a Master Artisan of Arts and Crafts. The research is applied the qualitative research method. The study was conducted by In-depth interviews. In this study was also applied a participant observation.

The results of the study founded that 1) Chongcharoon Manokham has been passionate in Laplae woven fabric. He was inherited the weaving methods from his ancestors and he later formed a waver group in a community. 2) He has revived Pha Sin Tin Chok Tai-Yuan Laplae by remaining the traditional folklore and adding new knowledge in order to create the new process of making Laplae woven fabric. He selected new materials, applied new patterns, and added different colors which are different from the previous patterns in to his new woven fabric. 3) He has collected Laplae woven fabric to build a knowledge learning center and established Pha Sin Tin Chok Tai-Yuan Laplae Museum for the social benefits. 4) He launched the new creation of Laplae Fabric at the event, “Noong Sin Kin Durian.” His devotion for Thai Arts and Crafts has gained acceptation from the society. He was honored to be a Master Artisan of Arts and Crafts in 2015 from the Project of The Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (Public Organization). The presented findings contribute new facets to the study of textiles creator and may also be of value to other areas of creative folklore studies.
