The Development of Using START Strategy to Develop Ability of Reading Comprehension for the Fourth Grade.

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to create and evaluate the efficiency of using start strategy to develop ability of reading comprehension for the fourth grade by 75/75, and 2) to compare the ability of reading

comprehension for the fourth grade before and after using START strategy. The simple used in this research were 22 students in the fourth grade at Banruangruk school, Uttaradit Primary Education Service Area Office 1 in the academic year 2/2022 selected by purposive sampling. The research instruments comprised: 1) six 12-hour lesson plans based on learning activity of using START strategy, 2) a 20-item learning achievement test with a 4-multiple choice test format comparing before and after intervention scores; and 3) a subjective test on ability of reading comprehension for the fourth grade. The statistics for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and dependent samples t-test. The results of this research were as follows: 1) the efficiency of learning activity by using START strategy to develop ability of reading comprehension for the fourth grade was 76.83/75.56, and 2) Student in the fourth grade had the reading comprehension after learned with learning activities by using START strategy was higher than before with statistical significance at .05 level.
