Development of Activities by Using Online Lessons on Gamification to Enhance Communication Skills and Learning of Students on Fractions of Grade 4

Abstract

This research aimed to (1) study the learning management approach by using online lessons in conjunction with a gamification model. that promote mathematical communication skills, and (2) enhance mathematical communication skills on fractions of fourth grade students. Participants were 35 students in grade 4/2 of a district school, semester 2, academic year 2022. The research model was action research in the classroom. The research instruments were learning management plans using online lessons, gamification on fractions, and reflective learning management. The Mathematics Communication Skill Behavior Observation Test and Mathematics Communication Skill Measurement Test The collected data is subject to content analysis. The research finding revealed that learning management approaches should focus on (1) using questions to students to cause discussions with teachers and friends in the group, (2) showing calculation problems to students to practice showing how to find answers, and (3) using gamification to draw interest excite enthusiastic, enjoy learning, and take pride, in the achievements of the students. The findings of the observational mathematics communication skills test and the mathematical communication skills test were consistent, that is, most students had a very good level of mathematics communication skills development. Students understand the content they learn and use their knowledge of mathematics to communicate. Able to explain and reason in writing, to convey the meaning of the use of symbols correctly and to explain the algorithm of thinking that is correct and easy to understand.
