Social Capital Affecting Local Development in Samut Sakhon Province

Abstract

The research purposes were: (1) to study the social capital and the local development in Samut Sakhon Province; (2) to study the social capital affecting the local development in Samut Sakhon Province; and (3) to study the guidelines for social capital development and local development in Samut Sakhon Province. The target population was the people aged 18 years and over, and domiciled in Samut Sakhon Province. The sample group for quantitative research was the 400 people, and the research instrument was the questionnaire. The sample group for qualitative research was the 20 people, and the research instrument was the in-depth interview form. The data analysis statistics were the frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, multiple regression analysis, and correlation analysis.

             The research findings were: (1) the social capital affecting the local development in Samut Sakhon Province found the overall was at high level; the descending mean were: the aspect of human capital, the aspect of intellectual and cultural capital, the aspect of institutional capital, the aspect of natural resource capital, the aspect of spiritual capital, the aspect of perceived social capital, the aspect of wealth capital, the aspect of structural social capital, respectively; and the local development in Samut Sakhon Province found the overall was at high level; the descending mean were: the aspect of life quality promotion, the aspect of education development, the aspect of infrastructure development, the aspect of environmental conservation and rehabilitation, the aspect of economic development, and the aspect of urban development and administration, respectively; (2) the social capital in the aspect of human capital, the aspect of institutional capital, the aspect of spiritual capital, and the aspect of wealth capital affected the local development in Samut Sakhon Province at statistical significance level .05; and (3) should adjusted local development guidelines by applying social capital factors as inputs for planning for further local development.
