An An Analytical Study of Lanna Buddhism’s Sabgurupadesa Scripture

Abstract

The objectives of the research were 1) to explore the historical background, content, and structure of Sabgurupadesa Scripture which belongs to Wat Sung Men Sung Men District, Phrae province 2) to transliterate and inspect the scripture from Lanna alphabet into Thai alphabet 3) to analyze essentials relationship and value in Sabgurupadesa Scripture of Wat Sung Men Sungmen District, Phrae province. This research is documentary research by analytical content structure of scripture and check the grammatical payment.
The result found that:
1. The study of historical background, content, and structure of Sabgurupadesa Scripture which belongs to Wat Sung Men Sung Men District, Phrae province found that the Sabgurupadesa Scripture was originated at Wat Wichunla Mahavihara in Luang Prabang, Lao PRD. The questions on the Tripitaka were made by the King of Lanchang and were all answered by the Elder monks who experts in Tipitaka. Later in 2380 B.A., Venerable Kruba Kanjana Aranyavasi Maha Thera co-chaired with the ruler of Phrae and Luang Prabang Royal Family; they copied this scripture from the original language into the Lanna Tham Alphabet and kept in the Buddhist Library at Wat Sung Men, Sung Men district, and Phrae province and there are almost 8 sets.
2. The transliterate and inspect the scripture from Lanna alphabet into Thai alphabet found that there is transliterate and inspect that concerned to Tipitaka commentary Sub-sub-commentaries in Pali language which compare with Pali thai and compare to explanation translated in the scripture.
3. The analyze essentials relationship and value in Sabgurupadesa Scripture of Wat Sung Men Sungmen District, Phrae province found that an analytical Sima Uposatha content Requisite of Robe, Bed and Seat, Durable Equipment, Allowable Things for monks, punishment of the offences in each revels.
