The Effect of the 2014 Coup on Public Service Provision by Local Administrative Organizations in Khon Kean Province

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the impact of the coup in 2014 on the provision and management of services by local administrative organizations. The researchers employeda multi-case study approach by collecting secondary data and conducting interviews with 16 from personnel of 5 local administrative organizations in Khon Kaen province.
The study found that: Changes caused by the National Council for Peace and order (NCPO) had tangible effects on local government in terms of local election and budget allocation, especially for small local administrative organizations. However, the coup did not affect local planning, service provision, and intergovernmental relations because local administrative organizations and local officials are well familiar with mandates, control, and intervention imposed by the national government’s mechanisms.
