Abstract

This cross-sectional research was to study the effectiveness of dental pit and fissure sealant and prevalence of dental caries after retention pit and fissure sealant for six months to one years. The samples was selected by purposive sampling in 300 children of primary school students in Kham Muang District, Kalasin Province. Divided into 2 groups, the first group was 150 students in program, while 150 students were the students not involved in program. Data were collected by using a follow-up after adhesion of sealant and collected by oral health survey from in January - December 2020, and analyzed by using descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression.

The results were as followings; retention of sealant after for six months to one years was 65.36 percentage of complete retention and 21.04 percentage of partial retention and 13.59 percentage of complete loss . Prevalence of dental carious status was 13.78 percentage of the received sealant application group and 22.94 percentage of the not received sealant application group. The caries occurrence rate between the complete retention and partial retention or complete loss were significantly different.

According to such results, there should be follow-up the adhesion of pit and fissure sealant every six months and we still need to improve the knowledge and sealant skills regularly in order to reach the highest effectiveness of the program.
