The Development of Health Promotion Model for Integrated Elderly’s Long-term Care by Community Participation: Case Study of Prue Yai Subdistrict, Khukhan District, Sisaket Province

Abstract

                   This research was a participatory action research aimed to development of health promotion model for integrated elderly’s long-term care of community participation, Prue Yai subdistrict, Khukhan district, Sisaket province. The study population voluntarily participated in the research process, consist of executive committees and members of the Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Committee of the Center for Quality-of-Life Development and Career Promotion for the Elderly, the Staff of the Tambon Health Promoting Hospital, the Sub-District Administrative Organization Employees, the Aged Care Manager (CM), the Elderly Care-giver (CG), the Community Care-giver (CCG), the Village Public Health Volunteers, the community leader and Phra Kilanupattaka. A total of 56 participants were recruited using purposive sampling and a sample of 100 elderly people determined by the proportional sampling of the population. The focus group questionnaires were utilized as tools for data collection, the data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation and content analysis.

                The results showed that there were 7 steps of development processes as follows: 1) Area preparation 2) Community situation and context studying 3) Project planning 4) Network communication 5) Implementation 6) Supervision, follow-up, support and performance evaluation 7) Project summarizing, knowledge management, reflecting on problems and obstacles, recommendations and success factors in the development of a model as known as HAS–MAP–ID consists of 1) H : Health Promotion Database System 2) A : Access and use applications 3) S : Social Activity Grouping 4) M : Monitoring and Evaluation 5) A : Age - Friendly Communities/Cities 6) P : Participatory Action Plan 7) I : Integrate Network Cooperation 8) D : Develop Potential and Review Guidelines. As a result, the participations and overall satisfaction were at a high level and resulted in the socially addicted elderly people receiving health promotion according to a wellness plan. After receiving health promotion, there were more desirable health behaviors.The dependent group received a quality care plan and after the ADL performance improved.
