The Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavior Therapy Program among Schizophrenic Disorders with Behaviors Alcohol Drinking

Abstract

     This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effectiveness of a cognitive-behavioral therapy program on schizophrenic patients with alcohol use behavior. The sample group was 25 alcoholic schizophrenic patients admitted to Uttaradit Hospital, who received the cognitive and behavioral therapy program for alcohol use. A control group consisted of 25 alcoholic schizophrenic patients, who were treated at Pichai Hospital and received normal care. The research instruments were 1) cognitive-behavioral therapy program for schizophrenia patients with alcohol drinking behavior, 2) alcohol addiction assessment, and 3) psychiatric symptom assessment. The reliability of the 2nd and 3rd instruments were reported by Chronbach Alpha as of 0.93 and 0.87 respectively. The t-test was use in data analysis. Results: (1) Alcohol drinking behavior and psychotic symptoms after receiving the cognitive behavioral therapy program for schizophrenic patients with reduced alcohol drinking behavior of the experimental group. (p < .05) (2) Alcohol drinking behavior and psychotic symptoms after receiving the cognitive behavioral therapy program for schizophrenic patients with alcohol drinking behavior in the experimental group were reduced than those receiving normal nursing care. (p < .05)
