Comparison of postoperative outcomes after elective inguinal hernia repair between one day surgery and inpatient surgery in King Narai Hospital

This research was randomized controlled trial. The objective was to compare the results of inguinal hernia surgery in patients undergoing same-day surgery and patients undergoing a stay-up appointment at Phrananarai Maharat Hospital. Sample size were 70 patients was diagnosed with inguinal hernias and divided into 35 patients who had elective inguinal hernia repair of one day surgery and 35 patients who had surgery with inpatient surgery. General information, Surgery results and complications between 2 groups were compared. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square test and t-test.
Results: The study found that the two groups were not different in general information except on the surgical side of inguinal. The patient with elective inguinal hernia repair of one day surgery had a period of time in the operating room. Postoperative pain levels at 6, 12 hours, the analgesic using after surgery and hospital treatment expenses of the patient with elective inguinal hernia repair of one day surgery were lower than the inpatient surgery (p<0.05). The occurrence of postoperative complications was not different in the 2 groups of patients and patients with elective inguinal hernia repair of one day surgery had a significantly higher satisfaction level than patients with inpatient surgery (p<0.05).
