Development of Nursing Practice Guideline to Educate Cataract Surgery Patients on Self-care Practice, Praarjanphan Arjaro Hospital

This research and development work aimed to develop a guide for patient education and before and after comparison knowledge scores due to Practice guideline in the department of cataract surgery at Praarjanphan Arjaro Hospital, Sakon Nakhon Province, related to personal practice knowledge The study was conducted between July and August 2022 The samples were 20 patients undergoing cataract surgery and 8 nurses from the cataract surgery department recruited by conventional sampling from the surrounding area The instruments consisted of a personal practice knowledge training guide for cataract surgery patients developed based on Deming’squality cycle and a knowledge assessment form for cataract surgery patients. nurse satisfaction questionnaire patient satisfaction questionnaire Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentage, mean, and standard deviation). Pre- and post-intervention knowledge scores were compared using paired t-tests.
The practical training guide developed consisted of the following content: Basic cataract knowledge, patient preparation for cataract surgery, video lessons, eye wiping practice, eye dropping practice, eye wiping and dropping demonstration, and a personal practice fact sheet for cataract surgery. The personal practice knowledge was significantly improved after participation in the health education program at the statistically significant level of .05 (p < 0.001) (t = 62.56, 95% CI =11.16 - 11.93).
