Nursing counseling for patients with depression and at risk of suicide: A case study

Abstract

     This study was case study aimed to studied nursing counseling for patients with depression and at risk of suicide. By study from Thai female patient, age 18 years, was admitted to the hospital on 21 July 2023 with significant symptoms. The patient was send from Sa Bot Hospital with concerns of stress, insomnia, depression, and thoughts of suicide 1 day before coming to the hospital. Doctor diagnosed Severe Major Depressive Disorder. Researcher provides nursing care and counseling using the principles of relationship building in 3 steps: beginning the relationship; problem solving together and ending relationships. After providing nursing care and counseling, patient can face stress appropriately and understand the benefits and disadvantages of harming themselves. Patient is safe, no self-harm sleep better and do normal daily activities with the cooperation of the patient’s mother. After discharge on 24 July 2023 and making an appointment to follow up on treatment, the patient received counseling for a period of 2 months and then ended the relationship. The patient is able to work and live life normally.
