Nursing care of patients with small bowel obstruction and inguinal hernia with sepsis : Case study

This study was case study aimed to studied nursing care for patients with small bowel obstruction and inguinal hernia with sepsis.
Results of the study: A 71-year-old Thai female patient was admitted to the hospital on 12 December 2022 with significant symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and no farting for 3 days before coming to the hospital. Doctors diagnosed Rt inguinal hernia with small bowel obstruction from computerized tomography and the patient was received Ileal resection end to end anastomosis on 12 December 2022. During admission, the patient had hypoxia and then was received intubation and ventilation. In addition, patient had a septicemia, a stomach ache, an imbalance of water and mineral salts in the body. Nurses use the nursing process to care for patients from the beginning, preoperative period and postoperative period, monitor complications from using a ventilator, fix bloodstream infections, monitor SOS score, relieve pain before and after surgery and take care of wounds for protection the infection. After that, the patient is safe and the breathing tube can be removed. The surgical wound is not infected. There were no complications after surgery. The patient received physical rehabilitation and was discharged on 6 January 2023. Total hospital admission for 25 days.
