Nursing care for patients with thyroid carcinoma receiving total thyroidectomy with modified dissection at neck: a case study

Abstract

     This case study aims to study nursing care of patient with thyroid carcinoma receiving total thyroidectomy with modified dissection at neck

     The results of the study found that a 69-year-old Thai female patient presented with significant symptoms. The patient had a large lump on the right side of neck and then was check by a Fine Needle Aspiration. The doctor diagnosed that patient had a thyroid cancer. Doctor made an appointment for total thyroidectomy. Patient was admitted to the hospital on 16 August 2022. In the preoperative period, patient was worried due to lack of knowledge. Surgery period, patient had a risk of injury to nearby organs, nerve from lymph node removal surgery showed blood loss due to a torn blood vessel. Postoperative period, patient had a risk of respiratory obstruction, low body temperature and wound pain. The nurse prepared before surgery and provided nursing care to monitor for complications during surgery and helping doctors stop bleeding. After surgery, the patient is safe and was rehabilitated and discharged on August 23, 2023, total hospital admission for 7 days.
