Nursing Care for Patients with Obstructive Uropathy under Cystoscopy and Double J stent Placement: A Case Study

Abstract

     This is a case study with the objective to provide nursing care for a patient with obstructive uropathy under cystoscopy and Double J stent placement. The results revealed that the 50 year-old Thai woman with stage-3 cervical cancer 6 years ago who received total hysterectomy and full chemotherapy as well as radiotherapy according to the treatment plan, along with colostomy, came to Urology Department for OPD due to an important signs, i.e., back pain and oliguria 2 weeks before coming to the hospital. Laboratory results found a creatinine value of 2.7 mg/dl. The physician sent for an ultrasound KUB examination, Bilateral hydronephrosis was found. According to the primary diagnosis, this patient had obstructive uropathy and bilateral hydronephrosis. The urological surgeon planned for cystoscopy Double J stent to both kidneys. Before cystoscopy, the patient was worried and lacked knowledge of self-care. Therefore, she was taken care of and given suggestions. During cystoscopy, she was put under the suitable position. The urological surgeon was assisted for cystoscopy Double J stent. After stenting, dysuria and hematuria occurred. The patient was suggested for self-care, with focus on follow-up appointments. She was sent for x-ray to confirm the availability of Double J stent inside both kidneys. She went back home, and then was followed up twice for her symptoms. She could urinate normally, with no more pain. However, she was diagnosed further. The CT result of the whole abdomen indicated bilateral ureterostenosis. Therefore, the surgeon planned to change Double J stents every 6 months.
