NURSING CARE FOR PATIENTS UNDERGOING THYROID CARCINOMA SURGERY : 2 CASE STUDY

Abstract

     This study was case study aimed at studying nursing care for patients undergoing thyroid cancer surgery. We selected patients undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer in the surgical ward of Sirindhorn Hospital. Khon Kaen Province, January - June 2023, 2 cases.

     The results of the study found that in patients who received total thyroid cancer surgery (Total Thyroidectomy), complications that may occur after surgery include wound infection and vocal cord inactivity. This causes a hoarse voice and choking. If the parathyroid gland is cut, there will be low calcium in the blood or bleeding under the skin and a swollen throat, which may cause a blockage in the respiratory system. As a result, the patient may experience panting, fatigue, and abnormal breathing sounds. In which post-surgery complications are monitored and symptoms are closely monitored. This will make it possible to resolve emergencies quickly. Reduce the occurrence of serious complications that may occur. Therefore, the important role of nurses caring for post-operative patients must be knowledge, understanding, skills, experience, and comprehensive assessment and prediction of risks that may occur.
