Abstract

This study was case study aimed to study nursing care for hemodialysis patients with acute myocardial infarction. Thai male patient, age 46 years, with chronic kidney failure for approximately 10 years, undergoing hemodialysis 3 times/week at Angthong Hospital was admitted for treatment on 7 September 2023 with significant symptoms of being unconscious, tired, and tight in the chest 30 minutes before coming to the hospital. The patient was intubated and resuscitated for approximately 3 minutes. The patient was diagnosed as ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction with congestive heart failure.

Results: The patient was sent for hemodialysis using a hemodialysis machine. Extended duration hemodialysis (SLED). Period before dialysis, the patient had oxygen deficiency, fear and worry due to serious illness. During the dialysis period, patients had a risk for low blood pressure while on dialysis, a risk of arrhythmias and acute myocardial infarction, a risk of slippage of the endotracheal tube. Post-dialysis period lasts 6 hours, patients had a risk for intravenous catheter bleeding after inserting a new line, low mineral salts in the body, dialysis 3 times with no complications. The patient received care until his condition improved and was discharged on 16 September 2023, totaling 9 days of hospital treatment.
