Nursing care of advance maternal age woman with comorbidities of gestational hypertension and overt diabetes mellitus: A case study.

Abstract

     This study was case study aimed to study the risk factors and nursing outcomes for pregnancy in advance maternal age with comorbidities of gestational hypertension and overt diabetes mellitus. This is a single-case study focusing specifically on pregnancy in advance maternal age with comorbidities of gestational hypertension and overt diabetes mellitus. The study involves one patient who received care at the antenatal care unit of Banpong hospital. Data was collected from medical records, patient and family interviews, and observations. A 5-step nursing process was implemented along with the Gordon's 11 Functional Health Patterns framework, to comprehensively plan the nursing care for the patient.
     Results : It was found that a pregnant woman developed gestational hypertension and overt diabetes mellitus. Based on the data, she had pre-existing hypertension without medication use. The physician suspected pre-existing diabetes conditions and conducted examinations during pregnancy. She received insulin along with hospitalization for blood sugar adjustment. Anti-hypertensive drug, dietary control, and standard antenatal care. The nursing process, combined with the Gordon's 11 Functional Health Patterns framework, was used for assessment and care planning. The pregnancy was successfully managed until 37 weeks, preventing preterm delivery and ensuring a safe delivery for both mother and baby.
