The professional nurses’ competencies in caring management of patients with mechanical ventilator at secondary care hospital, Chumphon.

The purpose of this survey research was to study the competency and relationship between personal factors and competency in managing patients using ventilators of professional nurses in secondary care hospitals in Chumphon. A sample of 143 patients was randomly selected from professional nurses in 5 hospitals. Data were collected using a questionnaire on general information and competencies in managing care for patients using ventilators in 6 units of competencies. Verify by experts, the content validity value was 1 and the Cronbach's alpha coefficient reliability value was 0.73. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics by Pearson's correlation.
The results of the study found that the competency in caring for patients using ventilators in all 6 units was at a high level. Experience in caring for mechanically ventilated patients is related to competency in caring for mechanically ventilated patients. In terms of morality and ethics nursing practice skills in nursing practice communication and management statistically significant (p<0.05). Age factor, education level, all work experience and history of receiving additional training in caring for patients using ventilators were no relationship with the competency of caring for patients using a ventilator.
