Nursing care for pediatric patients with relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia in the central nervous system where anesthesia is required while irradiation: Case study

The objectives of this study was to study the use of the nursing process in practice nursing care for pediatric patients with relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia in the central nervous system where anesthesia is required while irradiation. Study in pediatric patients admitted to the pediatric chemistry ward. Khon Kaen Hospital, 2 cases. Data were collected from medical records and interviews with caregivers. Using Gordon's health assessment model. Practice nursing and analyze health information using the 5-step nursing process.
The research results found that; There were a total of 5 similar nursing diagnoses: Point 2: Patients and relatives are afraid and anxious. Point 4: There is a lack of water, nutrients, and an imbalance of mineral salts. Point 5: Patients and relatives lack knowledge in caring for the skin in the irradiated area. Point 8: Risk of infection due to immune system suppression from radiation. And point 9: Caregivers lack knowledge in caring for post-radiation patients. As for the nursing diagnosis, there were 3 differences: Point 1: The patient did not cooperate with the radiation treatment. Point 3: Patients and relatives lack knowledge and understanding about preparation before receiving anesthesia for radiation, Point 6: There is a risk of danger while being alone in the screening room after anesthesia, and Point 7 Risk of danger after anesthesia. This was found in patient number 1. Nursing results showed that the nursing problem was resolved and continued care was planned. Both patients received complete radiation therapy and were safely discharged from the hospital.
