Nursing care of breast cancer patients receiving radiotherapy: A case study

Abstract

     This study is a case study with the objective of studying the use of the nursing process in nursing practice for breast cancer patients receiving radiotherapy. Keep patients safe from complications Study in breast cancer patients receiving radiotherapy. At the radiotherapy outpatient event Khon Kaen Hospital, 2 cases, study period from February 2022 to April 2023, with data collected from medical records. Taking history from the patient Asking for information from radiotherapy room personnel Analyze health status information Assess nursing problems using the Gordon Health Assessment Model. and uses a 5-step nursing process, dividing nursing care into 3 phases, namely the first phase of admission, the phase of continued stable symptoms and the distribution period is continuously monitored.
     The results of the study found that Both case studies found nursing diagnoses for breast cancer patients receiving radiotherapy. All 7 items are the same: 1) having anemia, fatigue, fatigue due to bleeding while dressing the wound 2). Uncomfortable due to pain in the wound from the breast cancer spread. 3) Malnutrition due to loss of appetite. Eat little food 4). Infection of the breast wound due to low immunity. 5). Anxiety due to loss of appearance, open wound and secretions seeping from the breast. 6). Promote self-management when returning home and continued care. 7) Prepare patients and relatives to receive palliative care. As for the different nursing diagnoses Case study number 1 is 1) The patient is not ready for treatment due to problems in managing care in the family. Case study number 2 1) Worried about the recurrence of the disease. Symptoms are more severe. 2) Have frozen shoulder. and left shoulder swollen due to lack of knowledge in improper arm management; 3) had grade 3 skin peeling due to side effects of radiotherapy Nursing results showed that nursing problems were resolved and care was continued. Can prevent and reduce complications. Received complete treatment according to the treatment plan.
