Effects of Using the Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) Screening with Standards of Nursing for Pediatric Acute Respiration infection on Nursing Outcome in Child Department at Bamrasnaradura Infection Disease Institute

Abstract

     This research is a quasi-experimental study. The objective was study the results of using the Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) Screening with Standards of Nursing for Pediatric Acute Respiration infection on Nursing Outcome in Child Department at Bamrasnaradura Infection Disease Institute. There were 2 sample groups: 1) professional nurses were 10 people 2) pediatric patients with acute respiratory infection were 30 people. The research tools included 1)Guideline for using the Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) Screening with Standards of Nursing for Pediatric Acute Respiration infection 2) Questionnaire on perception of professional nurse’s ability to use the Pediatric Early Warning Score assessment guideline 3) Questionnaire for perception of professional nurses' ability to provide standard of nursing care 4) Quality assessment form for guideline of using the Pediatric Early Warning Score Screening with standards of nursing care 5) Nursing outcome evaluation form. 6) Parent's satisfaction assessment with using the Pediatric Early Warning Score with standards of nursing care. Data were analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test statistics.
     The results found that professional nurses had an average score of their perception with the ability of professional nurses to use the Pediatric Early Warning Score assessment guidelines and an average score of their perception with the ability of professional nurses to provide care according to standards of nursing care. It was higher after the experiment than before the experiment. Statistically significant (p<.001). The parent of satisfaction who pediatric patients with acute respiratory infection were the highest level of satisfaction with the guideline of using.
