Abstract

This study was based on a research and development research design to meet the following objectives: 1) to develop an anesthesia safety checklist for patients receiving anesthesia; 2) to evaluate the rate at which the anesthesia safety checklist for patients receiving anesthesia is implemented; 3) to study the satisfaction of personnel in implementing the anesthesia safety checklist for patients receiving anesthesia, and 4) to study the barriers and problem-solving guidelines in implementing the anesthesia safety checklist for patients receiving anesthesia according to the perception of nurse anesthetists in general hospitals. The sample was 164 nurse anesthetists working in general hospitals.  The sample size was calculated based on the Krejcie-Morgan formula. The research instrument was a survey questionnaire with 5-point  rating scales that was checked for instrument quality by a panel of 7 experts.  Content validity index values were between 0.93-0.96 and reliability was determined by Cronbach’s alpha coefficients between 0.91-0.96.  The data obtained were analyzed with descriptive statistics and content analysis.
According to the findings, the feasibility of implementing the anesthesia safety questionnaire was hight (gif.latex?\bar{x}= 3.94, SD = .08). Satisfaction was also high (gif.latex?\bar{x}=4.7278, SD=.0692).  Problems and obstacles in implementing the anesthesia safety checklist were lowest (gif.latex?\bar{x}= 1.49, SD = .06). During the study period, there were 14 cases of fluid leakage out of the patient's veins and swelling (0.28%). 9 cases of bronchospasm (0.18%), 1 case of conjunctivitis from positioning (0.02%).
