Nursing Care for Elderly Patients with Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases and Bedridden Dependency Using the Concept of Empowering Family Caregivers:A Case Study of Two Patients.

Abstract

     This study was 2 case study aimed to study and compare health management in 2 dependent elderly with chronic non-communicable diseases who are bedridden and dependent. The study is conducted from February 1, 2024 to July 31, 2024. The instruments used include data collection forms, patient medical records, interviews, observations, data analysis using Gordon's health model, disease pathology, treatment, family health care planning using the concept of family caregiver empowerment, nursing practices according to nursing diagnoses, and nursing outcome assessment.
     The results of the study found that both patients had similar problems, namely, complications from chronic diseases, decreased ability to perform daily activities, joint stiffness, malnutrition, and caregivers lacking awareness in caring for patients appropriately with the disease. Patient 1 was not aware of his own health condition. Relatives were aware of the patient's health condition but lacked awareness and skills in stimulating health care and rehabilitation. There was no readiness in terms of caregivers, causing the patient's health condition to tend to worsen. Patient 2 was both the patient and relatives were aware of their own health condition but did not dare to move for fear of pain while the wound had not healed and lacked awareness in physical rehabilitation care. The caregivers were ready but lacked skills and confidence, causing the patient's health condition to tend to improve and the ADL score to increase.
