The Development of Long-Term Care System for Dependent Elderly in Bang Phun Subdistrict, Mueang Pathum Thani District, Pathum Thani Province

This research aimed to 1) study the situation of long-term care needs, 2) examine the problems in long-term care service provision, and 3) develop a long-term care system for dependent elderly in Bang Phun Subdistrict, Mueang Pathum Thani District, Pathum Thani Province. The study employed a mixed-method action research design. The sample consisted of 220 elderly individuals, 100 caregivers, and 40 stakeholders. Research instruments included questionnaires, quality of life assessment forms, and in-depth interview guides. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis.
The findings revealed that the long-term care needs situation for dependent elderly in Bang Phun Subdistrict, Pathum Thani Province, showed that most elderly were socially active, had a moderate quality of life, and did not exhibit symptoms of depression. However, some elderly were homebound and at risk of depression, requiring special care. The main challenges in providing long-term care services were budget constraints, staff shortages, and limited access to medical equipment. The development of the long-term care system involved establishing care networks, enhancing staff capabilities, organizing continuous care systems, creating innovations and providing equipment support, setting up community funds, and developing emergency service access systems. The long-term care system development for dependent elderly in Bang Phun Subdistrict emphasized integrating cooperation between sectors, developing staff potential, and creating innovations suitable for the community context. As a result, the elderly received comprehensive care and experienced an improved quality of life.
