Nursing Care of Teenage Mother : A Case Study.

Abstract

     This study was case study of pregnant teenage women. The objective is to study nursing care for pregnant teenage mothers who come to receive antenatal care services at the Primary and Integrated Care Unit, Rongkham Hospital, Kalasin Province. By comparing 2 case studies, nursing concepts and principles were applied with nursing theory (King, I.M., 1981) and theories related to mother-infant nursing, concepts of family and community participation, and home visits as a framework for the study. Data were collected from medical records, interviews with pregnant women and relatives, and data from 5 quality antenatal care visits, together with observation, determination of nursing diagnoses, nursing practice planning, and evaluation of nursing outcomes. Content data was analyzed.
     The results of the study found that the two teenage pregnant mothers in the study cases had no complications during pregnancy until delivery. The second case had complications after delivery due to placenta attachment, but after the doctor removed the placenta, she was able to act correctly and had better self-care skills. The two teenage mothers in the study cases were able to act correctly and appropriately, had more confidence in raising their children, and received implants to prevent repeated pregnancy. Both newborns were healthy, cried loudly, were active, and breathed regularly. They were given advice on perineal wound care, breastfeeding, and a postpartum check-up within 42 days and brought their children for vaccinations. The first case was hospitalized for 3 days and the second case for 7 days. From the follow-up assessments after 3 postpartum visits, the teenage mothers intended to raise their children by themselves, with their husbands and their own mothers helping to take care of them at home.
