Developing Caregiver’s Potential in Caring for Elderly People with Osteoarthritis.

Abstract

     This quasi-experimental research aimed to compare the perception of self-efficacy and evaluate caregiver behavior in caring for the elderly with osteoarthritis. It was conducted by applying the self-efficacy theory in the workshop. The sample group was purposively selected from 21 caregivers who had completed at least 70 hours of training. Data were collected by interviewing the caregivers before the experiment, consisting of Part 1: General information; Part 2: Perception of self-efficacy in caring for the elderly with osteoarthritis; Part 3: Assessment of behavior in caring for the elderly with osteoarthritis. Period: September 2023 - February 2024 (6 months). Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, percentage, mean, and standard deviation.
     The research result found that after receiving the Caregiver potential development, when considering each item, it was found that the aspect of being able to take care of the elderly to apply hot and cold compresses to the knee joint correctly had the highest mean value (= 4.58, S.D. = 0.67). The aspect of being able to take care of the elderly to prevent them from being overweight had the lowest mean value (= 3.86, S.D. = 0.57). Caregivers had the frequency of performing elderly care activities and performed them consistently. When considering each item before receiving the Caregiver potential development, it was found that the aspect of talking to and encouraging the elderly in facing various problems had the highest mean value (= 2.29, S.D. = 0.78). The aspect of taking care of the elderly to take medication for osteoarthritis as prescribed by a doctor had the highest mean value (= 2.81, S.D. = 0.81).
