Risk management and the development of a risk management system for the Pediatric Department, King Narai Hospital

Abstract

     This study is an evaluation research aimed at assessing the risk management project and the development of the risk management system in the Pediatrics Department at Phra Narai Maharaj Hospital, based on the system thinking concept of Donabedian. The project also aimed to develop the risk management system using the PAOR process as per the concepts of Chemiss and McTaggart. The study collected both qualitative and quantitative data and analyzed them using descriptive statistics and content analysis.
     The results of the study revealed that the risk management project in the Pediatrics Department had clear policy implications, improved staff capabilities at all service points, enhanced team supervision and communication, and a developed risk management system that included: 1) monitoring risks at every service point, 2) enhancing nursing competency and knowledge, 3) creating risk management tools and developing a risk manual and follow-up plans, and 4) improving communication systems. After the system development, nurses showed significant improvement in knowledge (p<0.05), the number of reported nursing risks entering the system increased, the severity of risks decreased, and nurses' satisfaction with the risk management system was very high (4.28±0.36).
