Development of promote the delay of kidney failure model in diabetic patients through health education and motivation to adjust health behaviors at Phibunrak Hospital.

Abstract

     This study was action research to develop and study the effects of a model to promote the delay of kidney failure in diabetic patients by teaching health and promoting motivation to adjust polite behaviors at the Diabetes Clinic, Phibunrak Hospital. The sample group consisted of diabetic patients and caregivers in each group. The research was conducted between October 2024 and January 2025. The research instruments consisted of a focus group guideline, an in-depth interview guideline, a non-participatory observation guideline, a patient knowledge and behavior assessment form, and a caregiver knowledge, behavior, and satisfaction assessment form. Quantitative data were analyzed by finding frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis and comparing the mean data of patients and relatives before and after the activity using the paired t-test.
     The results of the research found that knowledge about kidney failure prevention before and after participating in the activity was significantly different (p < .005). Behavior about kidney failure prevention before and after participating in the activity was significantly different (p < .005). The mean blood sugar level after participating in the activity was significantly lower from 10.78 to 8.80 (t = -4.04, p < .005). The mean systolic/diastolic blood pressure levels before and after participating in the activity were significantly different (p < .005). The glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) before and after participating in the activity was significantly different (p < .005).
