Effects of preoperative abdominal surgery visiting program of operating room nurses on anxiety and satisfaction of the patients and families, Wanonniwat hospital, Sakon Nakhon Province.

Abstract

     This quasi-experimental research aimed to study effects of preoperative abdominal surgery visiting program of operating room nurses on anxiety and satisfaction of the patients and families, Wanonniwat hospital, Sakon Nakhon Province. The sample consisted of 62 preoperative abdominal surgery patients and 62 family members who were the main caregiver, divided into a control group and experimental group, 31 cases in each group. The control group received routine preoperative visits, while the experimental group received the preoperative abdominal surgery visiting program. The study was conducted between January 15^th to March 14^th, 2025. The data collection instruments included a general information questionnaire for patients and their families, an anxiety scale, and a satisfaction questionnaire for the program. The experimental instrument was the preoperative visiting program. Quantitative data were analyzed using basic statistics: frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The comparison statistics using independent t-test and paired t-test.

     The results showed; mean anxiety scores of patients and their families in the experimental group after the program were significantly lower than those of the control group at the level of 0.01 (t=5.984, p<0.001 และ t=4.773, p<0.001), and mean anxiety scores of patients and families in the experimental group after the program were significantly lower than before at the statistical level of 0.01 (t=5.724, p<0.001 และ t=5.347, p<0.001). In terms of satisfaction, it was found that patients and families in the experimental group had significantly higher satisfaction with the pre-operative visiting program than the control group at a statistical significance level of 0.01 (t=-16.658, p<0.001 และ t=-9.263, p<0.001).
