Effects of Participation and Social Support on Behavior Modification for Dengue Fever Prevention among the Population of Non Somboon Subdistrict, Det Udom District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.

Abstract

     This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effects of engagement and social support in modifying dengue prevention behaviors among residents of Non Sombun Subdistrict, Det Udom District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. The sample was divided into two groups of 53 participants each, totaling 106 people. The experimental group consisted of residents from Non Sombun Subdistrict, Det Udom District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, while the comparison group consisted of residents from Pa Mong Subdistrict, Det Udom District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. The experimental group received the program for eight weeks, whereas the comparison group received the usual program. Data were collected through a questionnaire administered twice, before and after the intervention, from November 5, 2024, to February 5, 2025. Descriptive statistics, including percentages, means, standard deviations, medians, and the 25th and 75th percentiles, were used to analyze the data. Differences in the mean scores of variables within the experimental and comparison groups were analyzed using the paired t-test, and differences between the groups were analyzed using the independent t-test, with a significance level set at 0.05.

     The findings revealed that, after the intervention, the experimental group showed a statistically significant increase in the mean scores for dengue knowledge, attitudes toward dengue prevention, perceived susceptibility to dengue, perceived severity of dengue, perceived benefits of dengue prevention, perceived barriers to dengue prevention, social support for dengue prevention, and dengue prevention behaviors compared to before the intervention and the comparison group (p < 0.05).
