The development and enhancement of new nursing practices in caring for COVID-19 patients at Udon Thani Hospital.

This research and development aimed to 1) develop and increase the efficiency of new nursing practices in caring for COVID-19 patients and 2) study the outcomes of new nursing practices in caring for COVID-19 patients at Udon Thani Hospital. The samples were 84 professional nurses working in isolated wards and COVID-19 patients. The research instruments included: 1) the new nursing practices guideline for caring for COVID-19 patients developed the nursing staffing management guideline during the COVID-19 outbreak of the Nursing Division and Udon Thani nursing organization. the medical practice guideline, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of hospital-acquired infections in the case of coronavirus disease 2019 of the Department of Medical Services, and the medical practice guideline of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Thailand. The care of pregnant women infected with COVID-19, the business continuity plan to support the outbreak of COVID-19 at Udon Thani Hospital, the brainstorming meeting plan 2) a knowledge test 3) an observation form, and 4) a nurse satisfaction assessment form. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired t-test.
The results of the research found that:
- The nursing organization has managed the nursing staff to care for COVID-19 patients by the specified guidelines and has nursing productivity within the standard.
- New nursing guidelines for caring for COVID-19 patients include taking a history and assessing the patient, nursing, and monitoring for critical warning signs, nursing to prevent infection and prevent the spread of disease, collecting laboratory specimens, planning for discharge, and coordinating continuous care with the network and nursing records
- The results of using the new nursing guidelines in caring for COVID-19 patients include: In terms of service providers, it was found that there was a statistically significant increase in knowledge and practical skills at a level of .01. The satisfaction of service providers with the use of the new nursing guidelines was at the highest level (M = 4.45, SD = 0.49). In terms of safety for service providers and service recipients, it was found that nursing personnel were infected with COVID-19 and the incidence of risk of transferring patients to the critical isolation ward was reduced.
