Health Literacy and Health Behaviors among Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease, San Kamphaeng Hospital

Abstract

     This survey research aimed to study the health literacy and health behavior of diabetic patients with chronic kidney disease at San Kamphaeng Hospital. The sample consisted of 222 diabetic patients with chronic kidney disease at all stages, San Kamphaeng Hospital, stages 2-4. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation.

     The results of the research found that 1) The majority of the sample was female, 55.4 percent, with an average age of 67.38 years, S.D. 7.71, the lowest age was 29 years, the highest age was 88 years, 60.04 percent were married, 72.1 percent had a primary education, 43.7 percent were unemployed, 82.0 percent had an income of less than 5,000 baht, and 92.3 percent used the universal health insurance card. The average kidney value (eGFR) was 61.76, S.D. 19.28, the lowest was 19.00, and the highest was 89.74. The stage of kidney failure was stage 2 at 57.7 percent, followed by stage 1 at 35.53 percent, stage 3a at 13.47 percent, stage 3 at 33.8 percent, and stage 4 at 8.6 percent. 2) Health literacy in diabetic patients with chronic kidney disease San Kamphaeng Hospital 2.1) Knowledge about chronic kidney disease It was found that the sample group had knowledge about chronic kidney disease at a moderate level (79.19%). 2.2) Health literacy in diabetic patients with chronic kidney disease at San Kamphaeng Hospital was at a moderate level overall (mean = 2.88 S.D. = 1.46). 3) Health behavior in diabetic patients with chronic kidney disease at San Kamphaeng Hospital was at a high level overall (mean = 3.97 S.D. = 1.12).
