Factors Related to Work Safety Behavior among Operators in a Feed Mills Group of Companies

This study employed a cross-sectional survey design with the following objectives: (1) to examine the occupational health and safety conditions of each unit within a group of animal feed factories, and (2) to investigate the factors associated with work safety behavior among operators in these factories. Data were collected using two instruments: an occupational health and safety situation record form and a questionnaire.
The research findings indicated that, regarding occupational health and safety situations, there were nine accidents resulting in worker injuries, leading to a total of 147 lost workdays. Additionally, there were seven incidents of property damage and four emergency events reported. Among the 336 operators in the animal feed factory group, most possessed a moderate level of safety knowledge (= 9.32, n = 167, 49.70%), while a majority demonstrated a good level of risk perception regarding their work (
= 2.87, n = 317, 94.35%). Most respondents agreed that their organizations had implemented effective safety practices and maintained a work environment conducive to safety (
= 2.78, n = 296, 86.90%). Furthermore, a substantial proportion reported receiving adequate organizational support, timely information dissemination, and personal guidance related to safety (
= 3.51, n = 250, 74.40%). Regarding safety behavior, 75% of respondents (
= 3.42, n = 252) reported good practices in their daily work. The factors found to be significantly associated with work safety behavior included: monthly income, level of safety knowledge, level of risk perception, effectiveness of organizational safety practices, and degree of organizational safety support, with p-values of 0.035, < 0.001, < 0.001, 0.007, and 0.002, respectively.
