Effectiveness of the Crinum Asiaticum Leaf Formula Compress Pads in Patients with Neck and Shoulder Pain.

Abstract

     This study was quasi-experimental research by pre-post test two group design aimed to study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Crinum asiaticum leaf formula compress pads in reducing pain levels in patients with neck and shoulder pain receiving treatment at the Thai Traditional Medicine Clinic, Bangchak Hospital.Sixty participants with neck and shoulder pain were randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group, with 30 patients in each. The experimental group received a compress treatment pad containing C. asiaticum leaf formula, while the control group received a compress pad made with placebo (banana leaves). Both groups received treatment 3 times a week. Data were collected using an assessment form of the numeric pain rating score. Statistical analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, paired t-test, and independent t-test.

     Results: The findings revealed that in the experimental group, the mean pain score before treatment was at a moderate level (4.23 (SD 0.89). It was found that after treatment with the herbal formula of pad containing C. asiaticum leaf formula 3 times, the pain was reduced to a low level with a mean of 1.83 (SD 0.98). As for the control group, the mean pain level before treatment was moderate, equal to 4.41 (SD 0.86). After treatment with placebo (banana leaves) 3 times, the mean pain level was moderate, equal to 4.34 (SD 0.85). Comparing the mean pain scores between the experimental and control groups, it was found that the mean pain scores were significantly different at p<0.05.
