Effectiveness of Community-Based Drug Addiction Treatment Program (CBTx) Yangtalat Hospital, Kalasin Province.

Abstract

     This study employed Participatory Action Research methodology to develop a Community-Based Drug Addiction Treatment Program (CBTx) through participatory action research processes involving stakeholders in the community, examine the effectiveness of the program on drug use behavior, quality of life, family functioning, readiness to change behavior, and abstinence rates, as well as study success factors and obstacles in program implementation. The study was conducted at Yangtalat Hospital, Kalasin Province, from January 2025 to June 2025, spanning 6 months. The qualitative sample comprised 34 participants including families of drug addicts, community representatives, and local officials. The quantitative sample included 30 drug addicts in community. Research instruments included semi-structured interview forms, participation assessment forms, Addiction Severity Index), World Health Organization Quality of Life, Chulalongkorn Family Inventory, Stages of Change Readiness and Treatment Eagerness Scale, and urine drug screening record forms. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics, inferential statistics using paired t-tests for pre-post program evaluation, McNemar's test, and content analysis for qualitative data.

     Results revealed that program effectiveness demonstrated that drug use behavior decreased to moderate level, quality of life improved to good level (78.56±7.12), family functioning improved to good level, readiness to change behavior increased to high level, and substance use decreased to low level (6.42±3.15 days/month) with statistical significance at .05 level (t = 7.42, 6.21, 4.56, 5.23, 6.42, respectively). Urine drug screening results showed that 63.33% of patients achieved abstinence while only 6.67% relapsed (McNemar's X² = 13.78, p < 0.001).
