Perception of risk and severity of respiratory diseases towards the respiratory diseases prevention behavior among garbage collectors at Saraburi Hospital and contracting unit for primary care: Case study of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)

This cross-sectional descriptive study aimed to investigate risk perception and disease severity perception regarding preventive behaviors for respiratory infectious diseases among employees responsible for collecting infectious waste at Saraburi Hospital and its primary care network, comprising a total of 127 participants. Descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and Pearson correlation coefficient were used for data analysis at 0.05 significance level.
The results revealed that risk perception, severity perception, and perception of organizational operations related to COVID-19 control among waste-collecting employees were at a high level. A statistically significant and very high positive correlation was observed between risk perception and preventive behaviors (P < 0.001). Perception severity, perception, organizational operations, and preventive behaviors also had a statistically significant, high positive correlation level (p < 0.001). Furthermore, all three perception aspects and preventive behaviors between employees at Saraburi Hospital and the primary care network were significantly different (p < 0.001).
