Nursing care for HIV-infected pregnant women with postpartum hemorrhage: a case study.

Abstract

     This case study aimed to examine nursing care for a pregnant woman with HIV infection and postpartum hemorrhage. A 26-year-old pregnant woman, married to a Thai national, Buddhist, and with a sixth-grade education, worked as a general laborer. She was admitted to the hospital on April 18, 2025. Data were analyzed using content analysis.

     The results revealed that the mother lost 500 cc of blood during labor, had a Hct stat of 28%, and had postpartum hemorrhage. She underwent rapid perineal repair, uterine massage every 15-30 minutes, and a urinary catheter was inserted. She urinated 200 ml with 0.9% NSS 1000 ml + Syntocinon 20 units IV loading, and Methergin 1 ampoules IV every 15 minutes twice. Her blood pressure was 100/70 mmHg, her pulse was 100 beats/minute, and her uterine contractions were stable. Blood pressure and pulse were measured every 15 minutes. The physician checked for uterine ruptures and found no abnormal bleeding from the vagina. Normal vaginal bleeding, give 1 unit of PRC, continue to observe symptoms until 2 hours after delivery. She is conscious, breathing regularly, uterine contractions are good, vital signs: body temperature 37 degrees Celsius, pulse 104 beats/minute, breathing 20 times/minute, blood pressure 112/72 mmHg.
