Improving the Quality of Assessment and Management of Cancer Patients with Sepsis Using the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) at the General Ward of Suratthani Cancer Hospital.

This research and development study. Aim to improve the quality of assessment and management of cancer patients with sepsis by implementing the NEWS system in the general ward of Suratthani Cancer Hospital. Utilizing the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action) cycle 4 phases: 1) situation analysis, 2) guideline development, 3) implementation, and 4) outcome evaluation, using the Deming Cycle. The guideline was based on the NEWS system. Purposive sampling included 12 nurses and medical records from 40 cancer patients with sepsis, A Ququasi experimental: pre- and post-implementation groups. Review data were collected from September 2024 to January 2025, and post-implementation data from February to July 2025. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square, and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test.
The results implementation of the guideline significantly reduced delayed responses from 85.00% to 10.00% (X²= 22.57), a significant difference (p < .003). This was due to improved vital sign monitoring and proper patient repositioning. Nurses' knowledge and skills also increased significantly (p<.002) (t=8.08, t=13.67). The nursing team correctly applied the guideline 87.08% rate, and overall nurse satisfaction was very high (mean = 4.67)
