This study laboratory experiment aimed to study the relationship between the TyG index and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in at-risk prediabetic groups and to develop a model for using the TyG index to screen for prediabetes. The sample group consisted of 614 patients who received blood tests at Kalasin Hospital. The inclusion criteria were being over 20 years old and having had their blood glucose, triglyceride, and HbA1c levels checked. Laboratory results were collected via the hospital's and laboratory's information systems. Data analysis by descriptive statistics and to find the statistical correlation between the TyG index and HbA1c. MedCalc version 23.2.6 was used for ROC curve analysis to determine the appropriate cut-off values.
Results: The study found that the average TyG index was 8.68±0.71, with males having a significantly higher average than females. There was a moderately positive and statistically significant correlation between the TyG index and HbA1c (r=0.626,p<0.001). The consistency (k-value) between the TyG index and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) was 0.698 for males and 0.797 for females. The ROC curve analysis showed high accuracy, especially for females (AUC = 0.889, cut-off 8.902).
